Peróxidos do Brasil

Together with Produtos Quimicos Makay, Solvay is developing small, cost-effective hydrogen peroxide units for installation at customers’ sites. Particularly well suited for pulp and paper production plants in remote areas, this concept will allow us to operate cost-effective production units (of sizes between 5,000 and 15,000 metric tons per year) in safe and reliable conditions. 

European F³ Factory consortium

Solvay was part of the European collaborative initiative F³ Factory aiming at developing radically new, implementable modular production units.

Supported by 7 industrial case studies, the project proved the “fast and flexible” production concept by developing a container-based modular technology. This “Plug & Produce” approach integrates innovative continuous technologies like intensified reactors and compact downstream equipment.

The €30 million Public-Private Partnership project gathered, during 4 years, 26 interdisciplinary teams from academics and chemical companies such as Solvay, Bayer, BASF, Evonik and Arkema.


Axelera was set up by Solvay, GDF Suez, Arkema, the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), and the IFP (French Petroleum Institute)  in 2005. With the aim of accelerating the development of sustainable chemistry, it gathers over 270 partners and is currently working on over 180 certified R&I programs, with global financing of €560 million provided by its members. 

Successful endeavors from this partnership include: 

Process intensification: Making new tools available to chemistry to reconcile environmental efficiency and production performance is the vocation of process intensification. Successful results include intensified lab tools  to acquire basic process data in order to optimize energy use; and a pilot wired-type reactor , which will perfect fast reactions and provide a more reliable industrial extrapolation.

PHYCO®: The phytoremediation of organic compounds, this green process reduces the aromatic organo-chlorinated compounds from groundwater by up to 99 percent and lowers effluent ecotoxicity.

Duramat: This project was founded to make new materials that address key environmental issues. It has advanced particularly well in biofuels, tires, and consumer products.


Axelera initiated the formation of IDEEL in order to develop cleaner and more efficient industrial processes and transform industrial waste into marketable products or new energy sources. We are currently engaged in the BIOMAT platform  to evaluate polymeric material of low environmental footprint and in a program aimed at developing solutions to capture and valorize CO2 from a lab scale to industrialization.
